Overview

Our mission is to attract, develop and retain the very best talent within the IT Dev and Ecomm fields by setting up a Mountain Warehouse Academy.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of running tech young careers programmes, grad schemes and apprenticeships, and will have great supplier contacts and relationships for these schemes. 

No previous experience of working for a retailer is required.  Experience of running these programmes in a banking or tech/web business is very desireable.  The successful candidate will be part of the People Team but will work very closely and exclusively day to day with our IT Dev and Ecomm to set up and run the MW Academy.  


What you'll be doing

Recruit junior members of staff by sourcing candidates:

  • Through University Year In Industry schemes (YINI)
  • Through Graduate programmes
  • Through career conversion bootcamps.                                                                                                                                                                      P
  • Producing marketing materials 
  • Attending events (along with other dept. members)
  • Running assessment days.
  • Assessing candidates for non-technical attributes
  • Assessing candidates’ technical abilities.
  • Keeping momentum on the recruitment process by adding pressure to hiring managers to make decisions.

 

Build & maintain a training pathway for all junior members (and many existing staff)

  • Compile a list of areas we want to ensure everyone has knowledge in.
  • Maintain course descriptions.
  • Build workshops, resources, etc. for that pathway.
  • Listen to feedback from line managers about resources that might need changing / adding / removing and arranging that.
  • [Tech] Create new materials based on industry trends.
  • Run a training pathway
  • Provide access to relevant online materials.
  • Book external training.
  • Arrange internal training.
  • Run workshops.
  • Maintain records about who has attended what training.
  • Provide mentorship for Junior members of staff
  • Be a stable person in the first year that staff members can speak to.
  • Provide additional 1-on-1 training around areas that people are having trouble with.
  • Could instead point towards experts in that area and arrange additional training if required.

 

Support Continuing Personal Development (CPD) for non-Juniors.

  • Arrange internal technical training sessions.
  • Promote existing L&D offers.
  • Find & arrange external training.
  • Arrange lunch’n’learns.
  • Look for interesting lunch’n’learn materials.
  • Keep records around personal training time and arrange time for team to share results of personal training.
  • Run hack events.

Stretch goals

  • Improved interview feedback to candidates.
  • MW retail staff opportunities for career changes – for e.g. sponsored bootcamp places. Usage of apprenticeship funds.

We'd love to meet someone with

Experience deilivering Grad schemes, apprenticeships and young careers progrmmes outside of the retail industry.  Particular interest in candidates who have a proven track record of delivering these in banking or tech businesses.
