Overview

This role provides key support to the Finance Manager: Supply Chain who has responsibility for periodic reporting, financial processes and control and providing financial challenge, support and insight to the Supply Chain team on their result.

As part of a sub-team of 3 you will have ownership of Supply Chain. This is a significant area of focus within our business with a budget of c.£40m. The scope includes 4 outsourced distribution centres in the UK and overseas.

What you'll be doing

Month end

  • Prepare and post period end journal entries ensuring accurate recording of all costs and capex in a timely manner.
  • Complete robust balance sheet reconciliations to agreed deadlines with all reconciling items investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Investigating and prepare narrative explaining variances to budget and prior year for key expense categories.
  • Supporting the Finance Manager: Supply Chain with the preparation of reporting to communicate performance to the management team.

Business Partnering

  • Production of a weekly suite of reporting covering all Supply Chain costs to provide accurate information and enable timely decision making.
  • Identify drivers of overspend, prepare ad hoc analysis and develop recommendations to reduce finance risk.
  • Development and mature stakeholder relationships across the Supply Chain team.
  • Support the budgeting and forecast process.
  • Work with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate coding of invoicing

Compliance and Controls

  • Significant involvement in the year-end process, preparation of deliverables for the audit and key contact for the auditors during the audit process.
  • Support the development of a robust control environment by continuously identifying opportunities to improve financial systems and processes and by implementing these changes.

Other

  • Ongoing non-business as usual project work within the finance team as and when required.

We'd love to meet someone with

  • Studying for a recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA).
  • Minimum 3 years experience working within a Finance team in a high-volume environment.
  • Retail industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and a desire to drive improvements in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial business.
  • Excellent numeracy and IT skills including advanced Excel with a strong attention to detail
