Finance Manager – Central Costs:

Reports to: Senior Finance Manager – Business Partners

Key stakeholders: Central cost budget holders – Directors and Department Heads                               

Position Summary:

This role is part of the Business Partnering team who are responsible for providing internal financial reporting, partnering with internal stakeholders to provide financial insight and decision support, and maintaining the financial controls supporting their areas.

The scope of this role is our central cost base, which is an annual spend of c. £40m.

This is a high-profile role where you will be working with the SLT and board members.

  • Prepare and post all journal entries relating to central costs, ensuring accurate recording of all costs in a timely manner (< 1 day per period).
  • Deliver monthly management information to the department directors and heads, with commentary that demonstrates comprehensive understanding of cost drivers and variance analysis to budget and last year.
  • Hold monthly review meetings with budget holders to feedback actionable insight into the result. Identify drivers of overspend and support and challenge to ensure delivery and control of budgets.
  • Go-to finance contact for all queries on central costs.
  • Evolve month end reporting and analysis to better communicate financials to key stakeholders to support decision making.
  • Ownership of the annual budgeting process for central costs.
  • Manage risk and opportunity through preparation of robust balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Significant involvement in the year-end process, preparation of deliverables for the audit and key contact for the auditors during the audit process.
  • Ongoing non-business as usual project work within the finance team as and when required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant with experience working in a large company.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing critical support to the business.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and a desire to drive improvements in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial business.
  • Excellent numeracy and IT skills including advanced Excel with a strong attention to detail.
